BCP’s mission is making conservation of wildlife habitat valuable to people.
BCP is a leading African REDD+ Developer and conservation organization which seeks to sustainably finance wildlife and habitat conservation through the forest carbon markets. BCP’s mission is “making conservation of wildlife habitat valuable to people”. We work with Community and Government partners to help improve the conservation and management of globally significant wildlife habitats.
The Carbon Analyst is an integral part of a division that is primary responsible for achieving VCS and CCB verifications, predictability and prefeasibility studies, impact monitoring, biodiversity monitoring, geospatial analysis, and database management to keep BCP at the forefront of REDD+ methodological development and implementation in Mozambique and beyond.
STUFF WE’LL TRUST YOU WITH.
Main Responsibilities:
Assist the Carbon Manager in reviewing and updating the current GIS and Remote Sensing protocols in line with updates to VCS/CCB standards and methodologies.
Supervise the Forest Monitoring Teams in reviewing and updating Forest Inventory protocols in line with updates to VCS/CCB standards and methodologies.
Perform historic deforestation and time series analysis using open source SAR and multispectral data.
Manage and maintain field data according to sound data management principles and BCP protocols.
Perform various data analyses and related literature research.
Peer-review Monitoring Reports before submission to VVB.
Perform desk-based pre-viability studies for BCP or other clients’ potential new project areas.
Develop pre-viability and prefeasibility study proposals, work plans, and budgets.
Supervise consultants leading a pre-viability or prefeasibility study.
Write and contribute to Draft Project Design Documents.
Any other duties as assigned by the SMC

Operations:
Ensure the completion of historical deforestation analysis based on radar and optical sensors.
Ensure the evidence of the report is complete and correspondingly with VVB specifications.
Peer-review Monitoring Reports before submission to VVB.
Ensure the participation of Verra webinars associated with new monitoring methodologies or updates to the current methodologies.
Write and contribute to Draft Project Design Documents.
Human Resources:
Build capacities of partners, stakeholders and project teams based on the results of training needs assessment
Provide technical advice/ support to partners and project team.
Support Human Resource with recruitment of staff in all Site positions as per approved Site Organogram and to ensure succession is built at all levels
Finance
Contribute towards development of BCP annual business plans and budgets
Provide technical guidance in the execution and implementation of the AWPs and Budgets
Develop and administer an annual budget and work plan.
Supervise registering and report of project expenditures, commitments and balance of funds
Support Project FA audits and implement recommendation of audit findings.
Reporting and Communication:
Preparation of Annual VCS/CCB monitoring reports
Ensure that all meetings result, general progress and results is documented and communicated to the members of the SMT and Project Advisory Committee
Grant user access to appropriate files on G Drive
Ensure all documented meeting results and records are uploaded and saved in appropriate files on G Drive.
Implement a project documentation system to ensure all project document are timely extracted for purposes of audits, due diligence and data quality assessments
Ensure monitoring and reporting of activities of project partners involved in the implementation of the project
Monitor and report project matrices in accordance with annual work plan
Support the Communication and other BCP team members
ALLIANCE BUILDERS WANTED.
Masters or doctorate in conservation ecology, forestry, geography, environmental science or another similar natural science field.
Advanced skills in spatial data analysis, either with QGIS/ArcGIS or Python/R required, including geo-processing, raster analysis and cartography techniques. R and/or Python development experience is a major advantage.
Advanced computer skills, especially Microsoft Office (MS Excel and MS Word experience is required), Excel experience with VBA knowledge is a plus.
Linux system administration and experience with cloud computing and databases (PostgreSQL) is a strong advantage.
Ability to work under often tight deadlines, and accept frequent change in a highly dynamic work environment.
Frequent interaction with your team, both direct and remotely, as well as with project partners, stakeholders and community members in various international settings is required.
World-class carbon standards skills with substantial verification knowledge.
5 -10 years demonstrated experience in related work.
Forest inventory and biometric analysis experience is a plus.
Biomass / carbon modelling and accounting experience.
Model builder experience.
Fluency in English and Portuguese written and spoken.
