BACKGROUND
Peace Parks is a non-profit conservation organisation that specialises in conservation at scale through the development of transfrontier conservation areas and the long-term management of key protected areas, in partnership with government conservation agencies and communities within these landscapes. We currently focus on the development of five priority transboundary landscapes measuring over 65 million hectares throughout southern Africa, and the co-management of ten national parks and protected areas covering over 5.2 million hectares.
JOB PROFILE
You have experience in conservation-based law enforcement operations, ideally in a large-scale southern African context, with a passion for conservation and environmental sustainability. In this role, you will ensure that law enforcement strategies and activities are planned, executed and finalised effectively. The role will also facilitate communication between stakeholders and ensure skills transfer and mentoring of park personnel.
You have an ability to adopt and use technology, with suitable administrative skills to ensure effective reporting and management. You are organised and detail-oriented, and able to work under pressure in a remote field-based environment. You are a strong communicator, contribute to team collaboration and are dedicated to helping achieve project goals efficiently. JOB PURPOSE
A Counter-Poaching Unit (CPU) Co-ordinator is required to co-ordinate Zinave National Park’s counter-poaching and law enforcement operations. The CPU position will be integrated into the park staffing structure to assist, enable and support the national parks, established counter-poaching and law enforcement operations.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Co-ordination and oversight of Zinave National Park’s counter-poaching and law enforcement operations in close liaison with the park’s Law Enforcement structures.
Day-to-day liaising with Zinave National Park’s Park Warden, Protection Co-ordinator, Head of Operations and Development and park management teams.
Maintain control and monitoring of operations using the operations control room and EarthRanger platform for data collection, analysis and reporting.
Ensure rangers are equipped, trained and mentored, and undertake operations and patrols to the required Standard Operating Procedures and strategies.
Ensure effective management of incentive and performance management systems.
Manage and control Zinave National Park’s CPU assets, vehicles and equipment.
Oversight over the CPU fleet and ranger picket network to ensure professional standards are maintained.
Oversight of helicopter and fixed-wing aircraft deployment and K9 operations.
Ensure effective reporting and project and financial management.
Foster stakeholder relationships, oversee induction programmes, and facilitate meetings to address operational challenges.
