Peace Parks Foundation (PPF) is a non-profit company established to facilitate the development of transfrontier conservation areas (TFCAs) in southern Africa. Peace Parks is currently supporting the development of conservation areas in Mozambique through partnership agreements with the National Administration of Conservation Areas (ANAC). This includes the management and development of Limpopo National Park as part of the Great Limpopo Transfrontier Conservation Area.
Job Purpose
The Human-Wildlife Co-Existence Manager is required to manage the park’s human-wildlife co-existence (HWC) function in accordance with an agreed strategy and plan. The position will be contracted by Peace Parks and seconded to the Limpopo National Park, reporting to the Protection Department in close liaison with and under technical support from the Conservation Operations Coordinator. The position will also support the Park Management Unit (PMU) and work closely with each of the Park’s operational departments.
Duties and Responsibilities
Review and implement the HWC strategy.
Prepare and implement an annual HWC operational plan and budget.
With the support of the HWC supervisory personnel, oversee the management of the HWC ranger teams and the daily monitoring of HWC activities, primarily in a responsive or reactive function.
Responsible for ensuring all HWC incidents are reported and reacted to in a timely and efficient manner by HWC rangers and/or community department members.
With the support of project, infrastructure and community department personnel, oversee the management of HWC proactive activities, including barrier fence integrity and programmes to mitigate and manage HWC events (e.g. electrical fences, community agents, etc).
Strategically plan the management of HWC and demonstrate strong in-field problem-solving capabilities.
Ensure data (fenceline, incidents, etc) are collected by HWC rangers and recorded on the Earth Ranger Platform, and compile a monthly report.
Present monthly and project-based reports.
Represent the park in proactive and reactive meetings with external parties, including community and government representatives.
Organise and participate in HWC-related staff training, including wildlife behaviour and occupational training.
Develop good interdepartmental cooperation (specifically with the Community Development department).
Develop good relations and cooperation with HWC support organisations.
Represent the company at all times with courtesy and commitment to its goals and vision.
Take responsibility for the care and maintenance of company equipment.
Undertake all other tasks an.d general office duties as reasonably designated.

At least a three-year diploma in nature conservation or natural sciences, or a suitable equivalent qualification.
Qualificação e Habilidades da oferta
Mozambican citizens preferred.
At least four years of field experience working within the conservation field.
Prior experience in human wildlife co-existence field, plus a good understanding of animal behaviour and behavioural ecology, will be highly advantageous.
Must be fluent in Portuguese and be able to communicate in English. An ability to converse in Shangaan will be highly advantageous.
Must show initiative, have leadership qualities and have previous experience managing a team.
Applicants must have good people skills and be able to deal with the public, communities and local government officials.
Be willing to be based and work in Limpopo National Park region.
Physically fit, good at field work and prepared to work long hours.
Must have Word and Excel competency.
Good writing skills and ability to draft reports and give presentations.
Must have a valid, applicable driver’s licence and be comfortable driving in the park environment.
